  • New look for Systems House Fresh lick of paint at 42 Broad Street Well we're still not 100% settled in and clear of boxes at our new premises in Broad Street, Kidderminster, but the building has had a nice face lift to the exterior. Just waiting on our fresh new doors to complete the look. It's always sad to say goodbye to a place of business, and we enjoyed every moment of our 10 years at the Ashlane centre  on Worcester road, but due to the council placing a CPO to make way for the new relief road development, we had to leave. Many of you, our loyal customers, have already visited us at our new premises, and it's been very much business as normal. We'll have to search out some pictures from the early days for a little bit of nostalgia.

  • When Virgin Media announced an extra £3 billion investment in broadband last week, there wasn't much cheering from those too far from a street cabinet or out in the countryside to benefit. While Virgin and BT argue over who should be responsible for wiring up the rest of the country with fibre optic connections, providing better broadband speeds and helping businesses, what can the technology actually do for your company? Fast and stable broadband offers many benefits. Cloud services, which are effectively unavailable to those on slow or unreliable connections and taken for granted by everyone else, are one such benefit. Cloud storage lets companies keep and share documents, work on them in a web browser and interact with other users around the world. Cloud services like office suites o[...]

  • One of the most common things asked of our remote support specialists and tech-wizards onsite in our Stourport repair offices is how to speed up a slow computer. A lot of people think that once a computer starts struggling to maintain its clock speed, it's destined for the scrap heap. While this is true in some cases, even the most cutting edge technology can run into performance problems now and again. A lot of the time, diagnosing these problems is pretty simple, so if your PC is running slowly, try one of these simple fixes. Have you tried turning it off and on again? If your computer hasn't been rebooted in a long time, make sure to power it off and on again before attempting any of the following fixes. It may sound obvious, but there's a reason this infamous IT saying is so popu[...]

  • Computers used to be a luxury, nowadays, however, they're an important strand in the fabric of our everyday lives; we use them at home, in business and for recreation. Basically, many of us would be lost without our humble desktop PC. Sadly, computers have a very finite lifespan, technology is always moving forward, and while your old computer is unlikely to go up in a puff of smoke, it is in very real danger of becoming obsolete after a few years. The older your computer becomes, the more likely it is to give up the virtual ghost. Of course, scrapping your computer every few years and buying a brand new one will soon take its toll on your finances. Instead, you can avoid breaking the bank by upgrading your rig, swapping in new components as and when you need them. The question is, what n[...]

  • If you run a business in Kidderminster then you may already be seeing the benefits of mobile or remote working. Your employees no longer need to be sitting at their desk to do their work, and can work on their way to meetings and on public transport as they travel around the region. Remote workers can also work from home, either part-time or full-time, to free up space in the office. Whether you're already working on the go, or are considering it as an option, here are four ways to make things easier: Get mobile broadband dongles Many places now offer free or paid WiFi, but it's not the case everywhere. A mobile broadband dongle enables access from almost anywhere, on a contract of PAYG basis. You don't need to rely on public WiFi, and can even use a broadband dongle as a backup at home [...]

  • Historically, Microsoft have charged hardware manufacturers for including its Windows operating system on new hardware. In the past, whilst consumers might have complained about this "Microsoft Tax", the dominance of Windows as the world's operating system meant that there was little market for machines that didn't run some version of Windows. Today, computer users have a much wider choice when it comes to buying a new computer. The resurgence of the Apple Mac platform, constant improvements in the free Linux operating system, and the dominance of Android in the mobile and tablet markets have all contributed to Microsoft losing market share, especially in the market for small and lower powered devices, which has been exploding over the last few years. With more and more of our computing t[...]

  • Everything moves fast these days, especially online, where information really does travel at light speed and user activity can be frenetic. Use these helpful tips to make sure you speed up and are not left behind. 1. There's no need to type in the entirety of a web address, so you don't have to spend time fumbling at the keyboard as you start with http:// – leave it out. The same goes for the "www" prefix, as it's not required. If there's a ".com" in the address, you don't need to type that either. So if, for example, an address is http://www.mysite.com, all you need to enter in your browser is "mysite". Simples! 2. Zip around as you browse online with a number of useful browser shortcuts. Instead of reaching for the mouse and positioning the cursor in the address bar, for instance, just[...]

  • Whether you're tying a letter or an essay on your computer, or anything else, using keyboard shortcuts as you go helps to speed things up and keeps you focused on your writing, instead of hunting around the menu for all kinds of functions and growing frustrated when you can't find them. Here are a few essential keyboard shortcuts that will have you typing like a pro in no time. Certainly one of the most disastrous things that can happen when working in a word processing program is that you lose all your long hours of work and creativity in a flash – because you never bothered to save it as you went along (unless you've configured your software to automatically save a document every few minutes). Power outages, battery failures – entire system crashes: you just never know. A simple CTRL +[...]

  • One of the things we're asked about most at our computer repair service centre in Kidderminster is internet security. It's not all doom and gloom, however; we can help you protect your laptops and desktops against nasty net viruses and make your online browsing experience more secure. So, read on and discover how to batten down the virtual hat[...]
